Quantitative Imaging of Corrosion in Plates by Eddy Current Methods
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider the problem of determining material loss due to corrosion in a plate. Eddy current data are collected on one side of the plate with corrosion damage occurring on the opposite side. Our work is based on linearizing the relationship between eddy current loop impedance change with the loss profile. In this context, we show that eddy current data are sufficient to uniquely determine the material loss profile. Because of the ill posedness of the reconstruction problem, we propose three regularization strategies in devising computational methods. Numerical results using consistent data, and with added noise, indicate that the computational methods are quite capable of obtaining accurate quantitative estimates of the loss profile.

Evaluation of Acoustic Emission Inspection of Oil Tank Floor via Tank Bottom Plates Thickness Measurement
This paper deals with an inspection of defects including corrosion and leakage by Acoustic Emission (AE) in an oil tank floor. In contrast to intrusive methods such as magnetic flux leakage, eddy current or ultrasonic, there is no need to emptying and entering the tank in AE method in order to inspection. In this research AE investigation and AE source location is presented in detail. The resul...

It is different to detect defect in multilayer structure of an aging aircraft fuselage, pulsed eddy current (PEC) technique has been demonstrated to be capable of quantifying this defect. Based on theoretical analysis of PEC technique, the array probe is designed and the array PEC imaging technique has been supposed to detect corrosion in the multilayer structure. By selecting peak amplitude an...
متن کاملDevelopment of Eddy-Current Probes for the Evaluation of Magnetite in the Support-Plate Crevices of Nuclear Steam Generators
Eddy current technique has played an important role in the understanding of the corrosion behavior of steam generator components. Until recently, its role has been primarily in the evaluation of the condition of the heat exchanger tubes. Recent developments have led to the use of this technique for detecting corrosion of the carbon steel plates supporting the tubes. The detection and quantifica...
متن کاملQuantitative measuring of pearlite in carbon steels using electromagnetic sensor
Non-destructive Eddy current (EC) technique has long been used to detect discontinuities in materials. Recently, its application has been extended to characterize materials microstructure. In order to identify different microstructures, four plain carbon steel bars with different chemical compositions (AISI 1015, 1035, 1045 and 1080) were used in annealed condition. The pearlite percentage, car...
